I don't know if that's mental illness, or a personality disorder (which may or may not be a form of mental illness), or whether "being an asshole" is a category unto itself, but there does seem to be an asshole quotient in most societies. Maybe it's narcissism, maybe it's denial of reality, maybe it's an inability to accept that they have some sort of responsibility to do what they can with whatever talents they may have and not to expect to be handed things. It's not an excuse for their actions, since there are also many people, in fact, the vast majority who do NOT do these things, even if they are angry.
