[Bob.Muller@Fluor.com] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 16 Jun 2015 08:50:31 -0400 From: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com Subject: "They'll crucify you for changing..." or not. Most of y'all recognize the Joni quote in the subject line. Her restlessness resulted in an incredible career arc of musical innovation. And true to her word, she was unfairly criticized at many steps along the way. However, today marks something that hasn't happened in 13 years...a NEW James Taylor album. His career, of course, is intertwined with Joni's as his life has been. Unlike Joni though, James' career has been like an inflatable float in a swimming pool...not changing and just kind of bobbing along unaffected by what's going on around it. And he's never been overly crucified for never changing, or if he has I've missed it. His albums are like comfortable old shoes that slide on easy and feel good. "Before This World" is his first release since 2002's "October Road" and if you're a fan you'll definitely dig it. In other new release news - Robert Glasper, an amazing jazz artist with a string of fine albums and sessions (he drives much of the musicality of Kendrick Lamar's brilliant "To Pimp A Butterfly") releases "Covered" today, containing a 6+ minute cover of Barangrill. Anytime an FTR song gets covered it's good news. Anytime a powerhouse like Glasper releases a Joni cover it's good news. All in all, a good news day for new music.
