She said she paints with words and music and didn't like people to over-analyze the lyrics." Steve, I'd hate to participate in (or, in my case, be excited about) something that Joni wouldn't like. B On the other hand, this reminds me a little of all the debates we had in grad school in English lit decades ago about whether authorial intent mattered, or should even be considered. B At the end of the day, I'd hope that Joni would agree that, once an artistic work is released into the world, it takes on a life of its own, and is subject to all the judgment and appreciation (and analysis) that is out there. And, as a bit of a digression, what appreciation there is! B Way back in 1994 or 1995, my brother gave me Turbulent Indigo for Christmas. B I listened to it a few nights ago after not hearing it for years, and *damn,* that's a good album! B For years, I think I accepted the popular wisdom that Joni's Grammy win for Best Pop Album in 1996 was a belated recognition of past slights. B But now, with 21 years of perspective, I'm amazed at how many songs I now regard as Joni classics are on this collection. B Thanks again to my brother for making my first listens possible. Thanks Moni - in my original post I was referring to an entire tribute ALBUM...there were many many Joni covers prior to '74, the first being Tom Rush's "Urge For Going" in 1966. The 8-Track you showed features the same tracklisting and would be the same recordings I'm sure. However, it doesn't look like I have the TFT cover you mention in our database. I will have to research and see if I can figure that out. Here in the USA, K-Tel records used to put out records and tapes with popular songs of the day by "The Original Artists". That is to say, the band's name was "The Original Artists" in an effort to scam buyers into thinking they were getting the original hit records. You are a very valuable research assistant.
