I think it might be about time to watch the Ghomeshi interview again!!! But look up the Q magazine interview from 88 and it mentions being a clothes horse for a department store saving money for the union dues. I'm thinking she was keeping the reasons different to still hide the pregnancy (even though this was the British press). As for the dues issue, she usually tells that story when she is talking about giving Kilauren up for adoption. I think she mentioned that in the Jian Ghomeshi interview last year, too. It was only when Fred Walecki made the lighter Parker Fly that she toured. As for the other query... I understood that she was too poor to scrape together the dues too... I knew she'd worked there from an older interview from 1988 I believe... But maybe the trains she tells interviewers in 1988 is different to what she tells them in 1998... A polio victim at age 9, she can't play a wide body acoustic guitar due to the pressure it puts on her back and shoulder. (She played the Martin D25, which I'm pretty sure is a wide body acoustic, for almost 15 years ... I thought she invented the alternate tuning chord shapes because of her polio issues.) 4. She worked as a salesgirl in a Toronto Simpsons-Sears department store until she scraped together the $140 to join the musicians' union. (I was under the impression that she was even too broke (and also pregnant) to afford the union dues ... did she eventually pay the dues?) Sorry to nitpick! And I'm late on this thread too ... was happily away at beach vacation in NC! My skin turned brown and I came home! :) Sue Susan Tierney McNamara email: sem8@cornell.edu> ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2014 #981 ***************************** ------- To post messages to the list,sendtojoni@smoe.org.
