A polio victim at age 9, she can't play a wide body acoustic guitar due to the pressure it puts on her back and shoulder. (She played the Martin D25, which I'm pretty sure is a wide body acoustic, for almost 15 years ... I thought she invented the alternate tuning chord shapes because of her polio issues.) 4. She worked as a salesgirl in a Toronto Simpsons-Sears department store until she scraped together the $140 to join the musicians' union. (I was under the impression that she was even too broke (and also pregnant) to afford the union dues ... did she eventually pay the dues?) Sorry to nitpick! And I'm late on this thread too ... was happily away at beach vacation in NC!
