My misconception was that he was Southern US or from New York or the East Coast (probably due to Baltimore), although he did live in New Orleans as a child. Living in California will give you a tan I suppose, but if Michael Jackson could become white, then nothing is impossible. Do not Leon Russell or Steve Winwood or Dr John or even Eric Burdon sound equally "black", because of their musical stylings?
