As an eager student of Joni's guitar style I have to request that Turbulent Indigo be considered a masterwork by this lofty group (or the ages)! Just my two cents! :-) I find it to be the apex of her exquisite acoustic guitar craft. That's a good point, David and it is indeed ONE definition of the word. Using that definition you could successfully contend that STAS was a masterwork; that is it proved that she could hold her own with her fellow artists of the times. By the same token, the other definition (and connotation) is the finest or most outstanding work of a specific artist. Which takes us to Betsy's description whereas Blue and Hejira (and Court and Spark) would fall into that category. Neither definition supports CMIARS as a masterwork. Doesn't mean you shouldn't like it or even say that it's your favorite though.
