But I was listening to Nanci Griffith singing Lone Star State of Mind and really enjoying it. If (yet another Joni Mitchell reference) I had to choose about what singer/songwriter to follow after Joni it would probably be Nanci Griffith. Does anyone else have a second in line after Joni? In my opinion, Ms. Germanotta uses the Lady Gaga facade to give herself privacy, exactly the opposite of what Joni has done with her unrelenting honesty. She is very talented, and could certainly write hits for other artists or just sit at the piano. Maybe she will undergo a conversion. My friends who have had professional encounters with her say she misses eating. I can't even imagine what a collaboration would sound like. Emile Sande seems like a more natural fit.
