Criticize Joni? Sure thing, after all turnabout is fair play. I'm not much of a folk music type fan, so I was not very interested in the early Joni when I first heard it. Court & Spark was the first thing that caught my ear and I've been onboard ever since, although like a lot of her fans I took a bye on Mingus. I've since learned to appreciate all of her work, though I have my favorites (Hejira) and those I don't like so much (Chalk Mark). I've been on the JMDL since 1998 which is the same year I first saw Joni perform (in Atlanta in November of that year). Due to some good luck we had a chance to meet her that night, exchange some words and photos. Quite a memorable night! I love a good party and have been to lots of Joni-related gatherings around the world. Around 2000 or so I started trying to collect and document all the recordings of Joni covers and that project is still going strong. Every Saturday I roll up a CD's worth of recordings and send them out to whoever wants to download and process the zip file. As for the personal stuff, I live in Greenville, South Carolina, married for 30 years to a very tolerant lady who doesn't complain that she is subjected to lots of things Joni (she's not a fan). Other favorite artists include Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Ani Difranco, Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, a long list actually and I'm always looking for what's new. And I also enjoy getting out and enjoying nature, whether it's a run through the park or a hike in the nearby mountains.
