It might be the fate of the former Disney kids, with the needy stage-parents living vicariously. Often kids who become famous very young end up pretty fecked up once they reach puberty of thereabouts. I think that, had she lived, Amy Winehouse would be more of a Joplin type, even if there's no physical resemblance. I love Joni Mitchell. I was just listening to Here's to you off ttt. I was recently watching her interview with Harry Smith, when he says at one time or another you have saved our life. All this stuff wasn't available before. The other night I dreamt that I was riding my bike listening to For the Roses on a cassette. And Barangrill was done as an instrumental, slower, with a sort of slack key feel to it. It was always one of my favorite songs of hers. It reminded me of when she put the instrumental version of the song Taming the Tiger as a coda at the end of that album. I thought Barangrill has a great essence to it, just in terms of the melody and sounds. I'm trying to say that Joni's stuff is complicated. That's why all those jazz cats like Miles and Mingus were into her. "If" they make this movie which is a joke, they are going to depict her as the woodstock girl and concentrate the 60's, early 70's too much and talk publicly about her daughter issue, which is wrong and nobody's business. If she dosen't want this movie made, it shouldn't be made. That movie about Billie Holiday was obviously made after Billie Holiday died, so she had no say in it. Similarly, La Vie en Rose was made after Edith Piaf died, so she had no say in it. Joni dosen't want her substantial, important body of work reduced to a 70's singer songwriter, who may or may not have slept with Warren Beatty. She never wanted a "box-set" or a hits collection, because her albums are too important and substantial. She dosen't have to put out this autobiography, unless she did indeed sign a contract, but even then she could say, I don't feel like writing it anymore, I guess, but I'm not a lawyer. Well, enough for now, off to the ballet. On , Jeff Clark wrote: is it you? On Thursday, February 20, 2014 10:17 AM, Susan E.
