NJC Agreed. It's good to see you check in. He was the son of a cotton-harvesting sharecropper. In that way, he seemed to be the last of the line of authentic blues players. As we've discussed before, "authenticity" is usually an illusion, but with BB, he seemed to embody it. Jim From: Steve Dulson >> I loved how he played the spaces between the notes. Compare his playing >> to, for example, Alvin Lee of Ten Years Faster (as we called it). B.B. could >> convey more emotion in 10 or 20 notes that those guys could in thousands. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 May 2015 13:00:12 -0600 From: Lori Renee Fye Subject: Re: smoe "nervous breakdown" I don't "do" digests so I don't know how the digests are working (or not) these days other than noticing that the "Joni" digests beyond on 30 July 2014 are no longer listed. On the other hand, the "OnlyJoni" digests through 17 May 2015 are listed; see http://www.smoe.org/lists/onlyjoni/ (I've actually never much cared for the digests but that's mainly because people still don't "trim" when they reply to a digest or they leave "JMDL Digest V2014 #632" (or whatever) in the subject line and I often end up ignoring those posts.) I have noticed that replies to requests to su*bscribe take longer to receive than used to be the case. Those replies used to be pretty much "instant," but now they can take an hour or so to receive. I don't mean to sound panicky at all but we really ought to be considering an alternate plan. Maybe it doesn't feel "urgent" because so many of us have been here for so long that we're in touch via other methods (Facebook, regular email, texts, whatever). However, we will lose out on new members if the smoe servers crash. For me, new members have always been a welcome "injection" to the group and I would hate to lose out on those new people. Just my additional two cents. I really don't have any solutions other than the ones I mentioned previously. That said, I agree with Lori (?) that it's only a matter of time before smoe, which has apparently been "unattended" for years, runs into serious operational problems, or breaks down entirely. B I've been concerned about this since I returned: B smoe seems to be acting up (sending repeats and singlet digests) a lot more than it used to in the old days. I know nothing about computers or servers. B But if others on the list do, could they help devise a more permanent solution, including finding the list a new server home? B I'd be happy to assist in any non-technical way I can. Mary. P.S. B I think the list did not start on smoe, so we've already made a move at least once (although Bob, I'm not as certain of this as I was of the start date! ;-)) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 May 2015 18:22:23 -0400 From: "Jim L'Hommedieu" Subject: Support JMDL Please remember to support JMDL when the spirit moves you. 1. jonimitchell.com 2. Now that I've bothered to look at the end of http://www.smoe.org/lists/joni/, I see that list only goes up to 30-Jul-2014 at 08:52. Hm.
