I was very fortunate to catch her in concert in North America a couple of times in the late 1990s - once in Vancouver, BC and, then, in Austin, Texas. She suffered from Crohn's Disease and that made her touring an additional challenge. If I recall correctly, in recent years her health's been much improved. As well as her voice and music - I love her sense of humour. Though my friends are tired of one joke I picked up from her stage-show: "A horse walks into a bar. The bartender looks up and says, 'Why the long face?' " (If you find that funny, as I do, she also has a penguin joke that with the same sort of appeal...) Trailer Park and Central Reservation are must-haves. She sort of tailed off after that. We actually have (2) versions of her singing River, the first was from a 1997 radio session and the 2nd was the one she released last Christmas as part of an Amazon special release titled "All Is Bright". NJC Where was Jim Leahy from, does anyone know. I know a Jim Leahey from NJ, son of the great Harry Leahey, jazz guitarist. He plays in Dennis DeYoung's band. Come to think of it, he mentioned the Joni Mitchell tab page to me. Jimmy, although very talented and somewhat famous, he is very modest. Driving to the office this morning, I was listening to James being interviewed by H. Stern (ironic? dichotic? odd, anyway). James had his acoustic guitar - amazing. The short of it is that, while James was recounting the Joni years, James mentioned (I paraphrase) that (regarding the recent "event"), "Joni had a 'scare', but is doing much, much bettter". Thought I should pass this along. James had some great Joni stories.
