Jim, I'm not quite so pessimistic. As Kakki pointed out, the doctor who completed the report filed with the court on Joni's capacity allowed for the possibility that she might be able to attend hearings in 4-6 months. It appears to me that, while Joni may in fact be unresponsive, and her condition now is quite serious, at least one physician does not believe it is irreversible. I'm also not sure she is being released to her own home. Being admitted to a long-term care or rehabilitation facility in the very near future could explain why she needed a conservator immediately.
