I think its my favorite Joni cd. What a track listing! Joni said in some interviews during the ballet period that she considers the music in the ballet (80's on) to be her best work, and at this point I am inclined to agree. Since Earth Day I have been viewing her work from that point of view. Joni has said she dosen't think she'll be remembered for her best work. I think she will definitely be remembered for Both Sides Now, Big Yellow Taxi, Woodstock and Circle Game for a very very long time, the way Stephen Fosters songs are part of the American musical experience, ie., sung in music classes in grade school, etc. It would be nice if all this other stuff lasts which I think she has been very concerned about. I think those four songs are more important than any Dylan songs. Blowing in the Wind is nice, but does it really say anything? Joni's songs always say something. I particularly like how BOS starts with The Reoccurring Dream. That song was lost on the back side of Chalk Mark. It sounded like filler to me. But as the first song on BOS I hear it in a whole different way. My Joni thought lately is, "When this place looks like a moonscape, don't say I didn't warn 'ya!)Jeff ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2014 #2168 ****************************** ------- To post messages to the list,sendtojoni@smoe.org.
