The statements and denials have been published. While the web may be full of lies, I can read a court document. And while I never practiced family law, I do know a little about filings with courts. The basic thing might be understood as the "Joni Mitchell rule": never lie. So when someone attests to something about her medical condition, I think there's a good chance of it being true. But I also hope it's not completely true. And that she'll come out of the hospital and give us a little more to think about. I also agree with the oft-expressed opinion here that it's really none of my business. But every morning, my alarm wakes me to the sound of "Hejira" playing. It's a good song to awaken to. And every day, I think of her. After all, surely she touched my soul so why wouldn't I? She was like James Gatz, as Nick Carraway described him: "something gorgeous about [her], some heightened sensitivity to the promises of life". Her albums of 1970-72 were the soundtrack to my college days. Her later albums served as my companion as - to borrow Churchill's phrasing - I walked with "the black dog". It's why we are chat this way on this list. She matters to us. A few other items: Joni was scheduled to appear at the San Francisco Jazz Fesitval this week as they honored her work. They have decorated a building there with a large message to Joni which is quite well done. It's worth a view: http://sfjazz.org/jonimitchell I also came across a photo of Joni that I had never seen before. Mary Ann Halpin, a Los Angeles photographer took a series of photos of "fearless women"; Joni is among them: http://www.maryannhalpin.com/galleries/#/fearless-women/ Enough of the rant. It's nearly 70 degrees and I have to get back to the garden. Best to you all.
