Although I'm always happy to throw my financial support Joni's way, they always seemed like a waste of money to me. I own every studio album Joni ever released, and figured that, if I ever wanted to arrange these songs in the exact order Joni intended for my own use, I could fairly easily (and completely legally) do so. As for the occasional novelty or new version that might be part of these collections, I was content to let them go. I already had, and appreciated, so much. But yesterday, the Friends of my local library had a sale of books, DVDs, sheet music, and CDs. And there, in seemingly pristine condition, for $2, was a used copy of "Songs of a Prairie Girl." So, after hesitating a moment, and seeing that it contained some of my favorite songs, I scooped it up, bought it and a few other CDs, and left the sale. I am listening to it as I write this, in awe of the sheer scope of Joni's work, and sending my gratitude and best wishes her way. I'm also grateful to whoever decided to donate this CD to the Friends sale for "paying it forward." And yes, I can hear the prairies in every song. Mary P.
