It was one of the very earliest Joni song to be recorded by others, even before she had a recording contract of her own. The words are here: http://jonimitchell.com/music/song.cfm?id=71&from=search I think she released her own studio version as a "B" side of a 45, early on. She didn't put it on an album until "hits", but then she like it well enough to put it on the thematic "Songs Of a Prairie Girl" too. Trivia: Joni said, >when the leaves fell on the ground Bully winds came around Pushed them face down in the snow> I think the first song book and the copywrite for the lyric "guessed" that the words were "buoy winds came around" This is one of the first things we discussed on the JMDL, more than 10 years ago! It was the B -side of "you turn me on I'm a radio". My father is Serbo/Croatian and in Montenegro where my family is from it rains almost every day in the summer, much like Hawaii. In the winter, it rains like I've never seen. When living abroad, I had a Serbian boyfriend...and...the story in the song is not unlike the one I lived. It is, as always in Joni's music, like a movie, the visuals being so magically vivid. https://soundcloud.com/laurie-antonioli/04-final-eastern-rain/s-Tqd77 Hope that link comes through okay.
