His paintings of Palm Springs and swimming pools and the sense of privileged ennui they evoke are the perfect visual counterpart to a song like HOSL. As far as Coltrane goes, I recall her saying in the past that she greatly prefers Shorter on sax, that she dosen't consider Coltrane particularly innovative, and she's all about innovation.
