It was never at the top of my list of favorite Joni albums, but in November 2011 I decided to start my JM.com guitar instructional videos with this album, mostly because Both Sides Now was on it. What a journey for me!!! I'm two songs shy of completing the videos (I Don't Know Where I Stand and Tin Angel -- I'm not doing Fiddle and the Drum ... no guitar!). I will never again underestimate the precision and detail that Joni Mitchell employs when writing songs, composing or recording. It's really stretched my skills considerably to get the small details right, with her subtle bass runs, vocal acrobatics, and intense emotion that she puts into these songs. I will be performing I Don't Know Where I Stand and Go Tell The Drummer Man (same tuning) at the March 7 Ithaca Joni Mitchell Tribute, and I'm happy to say I think I may have both songs down ... although I'm more worried about the singing than the guitar playing. I'm really excited about this year's 6th Annual Tribute. Ithaca LOVES Joni Mitchell!! What a lovely collection of songs it is. I didn't hear it for the first time until the late 80's but have heard it many times since. What a concept!!! I may have to do just that right now. I just did a show with Glen Hansard night before last and the Lost Brothers opened for him. They are friends of his from Ireland and their set was sublime. Great old school harmonies and songs.
