Moss / Sing Out!" Subject: Upcoming Sing Out! concert to honor Gene Shay Sing Out! has organized a concert to celebrate Folk Radio Icon, heck icon period, Gene Shay on the occasion of his impending 80th birthday ... and to honor him for his contributions to folk music radio in the Philadelphia area for more than 50 years. (As most of you know, it turns out that Gene is retiring from his show in just a few weeks.) We've assembled a terrific cast of artists who are coming to pay tribute, including Tom Paxton, Janis Ian, Christine Lavin w/Don White, John Flynn, Silk City, Kim & Reggie Harris, Julie Gold and more ... including some *really* special surprise "unannounced" guests. (Gene's fellow WXPN host, David Dye, will be hosting the program.) It'll all be happening on March 1st, at the Philadelphia UU Church on Chestnut Street in center city. And it's an afternoon show, starting at 3pm, and followed by a gala reception for Gene's friends, family and admirers. (Along with the performers at the show.) Tickets just went on sale yesterday, and we'd LOVE to have a packed to the rafters event to really show Gene just how much he means to all of us. (I can tell you that I've been listening to Gene since right around my Bar Mitzvah, and his show really inspired my own life's passion for folk music ... as much or more than any other single influence, I think.) Full details (and tickets) are available at: http://www.singout.org/4gene It would be terrific if any DJs in the tri-state area could help publicize this event ... I'm sure many of you have been influenced by Gene! If anyone would like additional details, feel free to contact me (off-list) at: mark@singout.org. _____________________________________ Mark D.
