The price of oil B Hi, fracking is the process of extracting natural gas underground in what is called a shale. Its just another issue that people have different opinions on, and that people like Joni, Rachel Carson, Ralph Nader and many others have brought into popular consciousness. Joni thinks we humans have a responsibility to be "custodians" of this planet that we have been given, and that is the theme she has expressed so eloquently for many years, sometimes quite blunt and literal, othertimes more metaphorical. And always with interesting music.I like your references to For the Roses and reading of Kakki's feelings about the album. In additon to the fracking, there is a substantial herion problem around here. And addiction to prescription pain killers. The first two songs on FTR reference heroin. There are a lot of guys here who do roofing and construction and have falls and accidents and become addicted to either or both. I have been going to AA for about 8 months now and have talked to people about all kinds of things. This one semi-homeless guy in his 20's, a heroin addict spends a lot of time in libraries and has mentioned Camilia Paglia and Maynard Keener (from Tool) in passing conversation, and I said "Joni Mitchell has had excellent interviews with both of those people, you should read them" Ultimately we have to make our own decisions about what to believe, what to eat, how to live, etc, but isn't it nice to have someone like Joni write songs about this stuff. And if the price of it has no upward momentum then it would encourage the alternative electric vehicle enterprise, as there would be fewer vested interests in combustibles. And this, with vertical farming without agricultural contamination of rivers would contribute greatly to a world where the all of industry and business could be regulatedB in order to pay for shoplifting from the environment. ... capitalism, both ways,,..... Not even businessB exonerated. Then we could take our share's down by the sea again... with the tide rolling in. The vision has been established... If longevity is also extended everyone will face consequences. I think it's great that Joni is critical and even hate-filled as putting up a front when one is outraged is just pandering to social norms. Bob Dylan falling asleep is not just attributable to sexism but speaks of jealousy and I think someone like Joni has had to deal with that constantly. It is a normal human attribute to be jealous but somehow it isn't something that's mentionable. Famous people are often unhappy because they are so exposed to the worst of human nature. Yet they're expected to be polite and gracious and so they'll be left with no avenue to be themselves..... since they do often turn out to be lonely , isolated by fame. I'm glad that Joni is just being herselfB in public.... No matter what she comes across as. I'm sure she experiences the sacred in her life irrespective of what others perceive. If she is contemptuous she must just have a different yardstick . I left the Facebook group this summer. Best thing I ever did. How many pics of Joni that I've seen several times before were posted. Gag me!
