[Michael Paz ] lyrics to Shine [Jeff Clark ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Thu, 27 Nov 2014 13:05:42 -0600 From: Michael Paz Subject: Happy Thanksgiving!!! To All my JMDL family- I am thankful for this place and the music and art of Joni Mitchell. I wish you all a blessed day and hope you are all with people that you love and enjoying the bountiful harvest or a tuna fish sandwich or whatever strikes your fancy. I have my family gathering this afternoon and Freda and I have been in the kitchen since 7am. On the menu today Baked Turkey in Butter and White Wine Cornbread Stuffing Root Beer Glazed Ham Fried Turkey Mashed Potatoes and Gravy Sweet Potatoes Green Bean Casserole Brussels Sprout Casserole Oyster Casserole Corn Casserole Creamed Onions Heavenly Hash Pumpkin Pie I have been cooking this menu for over 40 years now since I was away from home in school. Most of this is dear old moms recipes that I cook from memory even tho we have some of the recipes written in her hand. Most of my own recipes are in some word doc on a hard drive. One day I will have to sit down and write them out for my kids so that this feeling can last forever. I am so grateful for all that I have. Breaks almost over I need to get back to the kitchen and start injecting turkeys for the deep fryer. Happy Thanksgiving and love to all! Paz ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 Nov 2014 20:23:58 +0000 (UTC) From: Jeff Clark Subject: lyrics to Shine I love the song Shine. I was living in the Keys when it came out. So the line "shine on the fishermen with nothing in their nets" was meaningful. Because its true, there's next to nothing in their nets. Its so sad, but true. Unlike when she wrote Refuge of the Roads in '76 when the nets were overflowing. I don't even eat seafood anymore. Around here in NE Ohio the natural gas fracking on the Marcellus shale is big controversial news almost always in the paper. As soon as it was approved, one of the business went to prison for ordering his employees to dump the waste straight in the Mahoning River. So Joni's lyrics are quite prescient of what people are doing around this place.
