The whole culture of celebrity is insane and the scrutiny famous people have to endure plus the quotes out of context not to mention the stalkers, bogus lawsuits and accusations would be enough to make anyone crazy. I honestly think Joni has been more victimized by misquoting and quoting out of context than most. She is unflinchingly honest and does not play PR games so it's easy for interviewers to set her up as well. The Tavis Smiley piece was a wonderful exception. Tavis has such respect for Joni. I truly think he is in awe of her. He made a remark about just getting out of the way of the thoughts that come out of her extraordinary mind. She enjoyed it and when he thanked her, she said as much and also told him she had asked to see him. He kissed her hand at the end of the program. We listen to Tavis on NPR. He's another highly intelligent human being who is honest and speaks his mind. I think there is a mutual admiration society there. I think Tavis asked her about putting herself in the same class as Debussy, Ellington and Miles Davis. Joni said something to the effect that, oh no, she doesn't put herself in that exalted company. She said she needs artists she can look up to. Another misconception that I have heard perpetuated, that Joni is so arrogant to consider her music to be of the same quality as Debussy, etc. Frankly, I would be disappointed in Joni if she didn't speak so freely and stir up the s**t every now and then. If she ever did care about the star-maker machinery, I don't think she does anymore. Her honesty is one of the things I admire most about her. I don't always agree with her but sometimes I feel strongly that what she says are things that need to be said and heard. Mark in cold Seattle - 30 degrees right now and we had snow last night. Nothing compared to other places but unusual for us. To Kakki: You're probably getting 3 copies of this because I forgot to hit 'Reply All' the first time. Sorry about that. Alas, another senior moment. They seem to come more and more often these days. - -----Original Message----- From: kbhla@fastmail.fm Sent: Friday, November 28, 2014 7:54 PM To: FMYFL@aol.com ; joni@smoe.org Subject: Re: Joni, Taylor Swift, etc. You are right, Jimmy - Joni might dig at some of her peers but she would never say Taylor has no talent. That is terrible if that is how the media is extrapolating what she originally said. I was thinking tonight it is probably a very good and wise thing in some ways for Joni that she doesn't peruse the internet or social media, has only some old landline wall phone in the kitchen without an answering machine and only uses her new iPhone to snap photos! I would go nuts if I was a public figure, especially an artist, and had to read such cr*p about me! Joni saying Taylor has high cheekbones, but no talent. Joni wouldn't say that. It's just marketing bull. > > xoxo > Jimmy > > In a message dated 11/28/2014 6:26:57 PM Eastern Standard Time, kbhla@fastmail.fm writes: > >> Not so much frustrated but highly curious why quotes of Joni >> from over a >> year ago are now being systematically sent out to all media now.
