Kaaki, It's the Star Maker machinery in action. And the star they're promoting is Taylor Swift. All of the recent activity and publicity about Taylor Swift and her new album comes at the same time that Joni is out and about giving interviews promoting her new 4 CD compilation. Some of these articles are apparently written by people who seem to resent Joni not letting Taylor do Joni the favor of portraying her in a movie. As if ... Frankly, to me, it's more insult than favor. OTOH: Joni HAS been quite 'bitter' and 'resentful' in recent years in a number of interviews. It never hurt anyone to be gracious. Check out 'An open letter to Joni Mitchell, from Dave Bidini' @ the following URL: And you are absolutely correct, this is OLD news. Herebs a message I sent to the JMDL last year. - - - - - - Posted to the JMDL on Sept. 26, 2013 David Marine asked > You're right, I don't think there's anything that Joni could do to kill the movie, > but she could withhold the rights to use any of her music. They also need her permission and authorization to use her Recordings, if an actress were to Lip-Sync instead of actually singing Joni's songs for the movie. THAT's how Joni Kills (ie: killed) the movie. Make sure the producers understand that No permissions or authorizations will be forthcoming. Joni actually signed a New management agreement with Elliot Roberts to protect her interests and handle any relevant negotiations. Now that the movie is a *dead* issue, that relationship has lapsed once again. - - - - - Catherine McKay posted > At the TimesTalks event, Joni talked about having "squelched" a movie about *her* life. > She says she spoke to a producer who was apparently at the movie showing in BC last year. > She also mentioned something about not being just blonde hair and cheekbones. > This led to a Facebook discussion, with some of us thinking she may have been talking about > the "Girls Like Us" project, but it's possible she was talking about something else - that is, > if there were ever discussions about a movie being made about her. Yes, the movie in question was a film version of the "Girls Like Us" book. Interesting to note that, to Joni, a "Girls Like Us" movie is about *her* life. As we all know, in addition to Joni Mitchell, the book is also about Carole King & Carly Simon. Carly Simon ??? Talk about a false equivalency. Thank God! this movie IS a *dead* issue. Taylor Swift? as Joni Mitchell? This is someone's idea of a sad, sick joke. It is also somewhat naive and arrogant of Taylor Swift take this on as a 'first' (or 2nd) acting role and think she could actually pull it off.
