Oh, if you get chills THINKING about it, wait until you HEAR it.

I was listening to it again this morning. The production (by Larry Klein, 
I assume) is masterful and as I stated with Laurie's album is such a key 
to the sonics of the album. Production never gets the recognition it 
deserves, in my opinion. The balance between the more complex and 
orchestrated pieces and the simpler more basic pieces is perfect. Every 
artist involved is utilized to their full potential and the pairings are 
inspired. I wonder if Joni was invited to this project? She has said that 
she considers Nyro a peer.

Here's the tracklist - EVERY track is killer:

1. New York Tendaberry - Renee Fleming w/Yo-Yo Ma
2. The Confession - Becca Stevens
3. Map To The Treasure - Lisa Fischer
4. Upstairs By A Chinese Lamp - Esperanza Spalding w/Wayne Shorter
5. Been On A Train - Rickie Lee Jones
6. Stoned Soul Picnic - Ledisi
7. Gibsom Street - Susan Tedeschi w/Steve Wilson
8. Save The Country - Shawn Colvin w/Chris Botti
9. To A Child - Dianne Reeves
10. And When I Die - Alison Krauss w/Jerry Douglas

Billy Childs contributes keyboards on every track and like Herbie's Joni 
project he embellishes without grandstanding; blends seamlessly with the 
arrangements, the vocals, the other musicians. By the same token he 
establishes himself on each track such that you realize this is HIS 
project. And I'll show my ignorance here and say that I had not heard of 
prior to this album.

I was reading the new Vanity Fair over breakfast when this was playing and 
I literally had to close up the magazine because I could not focus on it 
with the music playing. This music commands and demands your full 
attention. 

Of course, much of the strength of this project is the SOURCE MATERIAL, 
which is to say the compositions of Laura Nyro. Another comparison between 
this album and Laurie's "Songs of Shadows, Songs of Light"...songs, 
musicians, production, all coming together to form a whole that only comes 
around every once in a while.
