As well, am making the trek to San Diego to catch them do the "Mingus" record which is an amazingly brave and complex body of work to tackle. I have been honored by getting wonderful reviews (honestly) and have as well provoked comments like "This is the worst album I have ever bought" on Amazon. Theo Bleckmann told me a little controversy is always good! I haven't posted any of my reviews for the group to see - they are all on my website here if anyone is interested: www.laurieantonioli.com/news. The one that excites me the most, however, is that we got out of the jazz media circle (finally!) into a really cool online magazine called "Elmore" - - never heard of it until now but is truly an eclectic music magazine - here's the review - http://www.elmoremagazine.com/category/reviews/albums The reviews of the other albums on this site got me checking out some artists that I'd never heard of before. Hannah Aldridge is particularly cool - I like the rock/country/original music she's doing. A bit of Sheryl Crow/Dixie Chicks/Gillian Welsh vibe. I just bought her CD!! She is only 26 and writing some amazing songs: http://hannah-aldridge.com/about-me/ Like Laura Marling (who I would have not known about be it not for JMDL) she is wise beyond her years. Wishing you all a wonderful day. Life is busy, but I often take time to check in and keep track of what the group is discussing. It's become a nice place to visit - with my work I'm on the computer a lot (too much) and taking little breaks with JMDL is my guilty pleasure! When a book is that good and about a favorite subject, I can't put it down. It is hard to describe all the ways that this one is so wonderful. It is the most true and real depiction of Joni I've ever read. While it contains a variety of conversations over 40 years, it is consistent and filled with insight and revelations - even between the lines. I kept feeling overwhelming relief as I read through, grateful to Malka Marom for letting us get to know Joni through careful editing that always frames the correct context, includes the salient points of the conversations and even adds in where Joni laughs so the reader can see get an idea when she is joking, lighthearted or being philosophical. After all the "chop jobs" we've read of Joni over time, it was so refreshing. There are some experiences in her life that she has waited until now to reveal. They confirm a a few thing that we may have suspected and also set any assumptions and pre-conceptions on their head. Very happy for this book.
