Even if I'm not an aviation geek as such, there are so many evocative images (visual, sonic and maybe more) that Joni has used that resonated with me from the start. I love the line from "Man from Mars' that goes "I hear you in the water and the wiring in the walls" because as a child I used to think I could *hear* electricity (but I really think it was the sound of cicadas that made me think the wires were humming). There are many, many more but I can't think of them just now. ________________________________ From: Steve Dulson To: joni@smoe.org Sent: Friday, August 15, 2014 11:08:57 AM Subject: The drone of flying engines Jim McMeans wrote: > I remember as a child playing outside and hearing twin engine airplanes > fading away in the distance with their engines going in and out of phase > with each other, and being mesmerized. Then several years later I hear: > > "The drone of flying engines, is a song so wild and blue, > it scrambles time and seasons if it gets through to you" I was an aviation geek long before I was a Joni geek, so this really resonates (pun) with me. Of course, Amelia is my favorite JM song. *************************************************** Steve Dulson Costa Mesa CA FAR-West (Folk Alliance Region - West) tinkersown@ca.rr.com www.far-west.org ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2014 #1088 ****************************** ------- To post messages to the list,sendtojoni@smoe.org.
