Her records sound like they could have come out 50 years ago but they don't sound gimmicky or retro. And in other new releases, the one that is likely MOST interesting to this crew is the NEW David Crosby album ("Croz") coming out in 2 weeks. He's still in great voice and his writing is always up to a high standard. I'm anxious to hear this one! Thanks, Muller, for suggesting her several years ago. I love her sound. I wish her all the best in her fight against cancer. At the same time, I'm miffed that you can get three bonus tunes if you buy from Itunes. It drives me nuts when they have different versions of essentially the same album. Often the bonus tracks aren't necessary, though, IMHO. Trying to decide whether I want to buy the new Bruce or not, since I agree that the last few have been OK, but not great. And yet, I have all, or almost all, of his stuff, so... I did hear "American Skin" and thought it was a great version of the song. Once again, they're selling this as regular (CD only) or "deluxe" (includes DVD), which also drives me nuts. It also drives the manager at the local record shop nuts, so he tells me, since he has to buy and display twice as many of what is essentially the same thing. They are selling the one with the DVD for only $2 more than the regular CD, but do I really want or need that DVD? Probably not. I hate marketing these days and whole consumerist ethic. It's enough to make me want to go off the grid, I tells ya! Waiting for the Rosanne Cash to arrive in the mail, since I ordered it from her website. Fool! I could've bought it for half the price at the record store once you add in shipping and I hope I don't get dinged for duty! Speaking of falling for consumerist ploys, (I get some post cards with that! Yowza!) but I like to think that the artist gets more if I buy directly from them (not really "directly" in this case, and I doubt Ms Cash needs the cash as much as many other artists do.) I agree that 2014 seems to be starting off on a good note. So to speak. Let's hope this augurs well for the rest of this year, music-wise at least. >________________________________ > From: "Bob.Muller@Fluor.com" >To: jlhommedieu@insight.rr.com >Cc: joni@smoe.org >Sent: Wednesday, January 15, 2014 8:19:40 AM >Subject: Re: High Hopes, njc > > >Being a major Bruce fan, I'd read several reviews of High Hopes prior to >its release. I used a gift card I had for payment. I just got a new debit card from my bank since it appears my old one was compromised. I only listened to the first 2 tracks on my way home, but so far I'm digging it.
