Sounds a wonderful gig, Ange! Interesting the Krishna folk wouldn't let you blow that candle out and great that you held it together. What a great idea, too, having a Ladies of the Canyon Section. Loved to have seen that! Thanks again for another wonderful cover CD. As I posted on FB, I really like Suzanne Sheridan, and I appreciate the link you sent me to her entire tribute to Joni. Michael Ball is terrific. I loved his cover of River, and the BSN cover is equally great. Very much like Joni's BSN tour with the orchestra. I found Lee Eunmi's aka "The Barefoot Diva" from Korea was fantastic on BSN. Such a wonderful voice. Probably my favorite of the bunch Keeping in the theme of BSN, The Silver Creek Intermediate Chorus from NYC did a fantastic job. I can't believe they are elementary school kids. Normally don't like the young choir kids :) Charity Vance from season 9 of American Idol did a great job with "River". I've watched all the A.I. seasons, but don't remember her. Lovely voice. As for Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, "You're So Square".......which is the worse song Joni ever covered, this guy was was not just sloppy fun...he was high on something. I did find it interesting that Ringo Starr was the drummer with his group prior to being with the Beatles. All in all, it was a terrific covers CD! Sorry if you get it twice... > > >Howdy all, and happy weekend. Hope everyone is warm and safe, there is some extreme weather going on, even here in SC. But there's always one way to heat things up, and that's a new set of Joni covers. Herein is a brand new collection, Volume 180 in the never-ending story. For Jimmy, the last of the Suzanne Sheridan tracks, for those who like the deep track covers, there's Patrick Wolf singing "Willy" and Adriana Vasques gives us a straight read on "Blonde In The Bleachers" which is kind of refreshing as this one typically gets very creative treatments. Ah, such a pretty song and you can really hear the Laura Nyro influence on this one. > >Michael Ball kicks it off with a nice BSN - we just heard from him a short while ago with his lovely take on River. My personal faves also include Bjorn Berge's Woodstock and a clean jazzy Dry Cleaner from Unstablemates. Rory Storm's "You're So Square" is sloppy fun. Laura Bernay turns in a couple of gems from STAS - the title track and a "Michael From Mountains", just for Sue! And wait til you hear Marion Rampal's cover of "Urge For Going", she brings lots of new colors to it and makes it all her own, just spell-binding. Is that a bass clarinet? A bassoon? An oboe? Not sure maybe someone with a better ear can let us know? ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2014 #22 **************************** ------- To post messages to the list,sendtojoni@smoe.org.
