Joni's cited by two of those interviewed. Singer-songwriter Allison Crowe, (whom I serve as manager), says of her selection: "Blue by Joni Mitchell. 'This album is a must. Joni Mitchell is just all-around fantastic. Her song-writing, her musicianship - her voice, her playing, her arranging - everything is pretty much unmatchable'." Artist and gallery curator Sheila Norgate picks: "Ladies of the Canyon by Joni Mitchell, 'Because she IS the best songwriter alive'." http://www.nanaimodailynews.com/lists-of-summer-nanaimo-music-lovers-pick-all-time-greatest-albums-1.337948 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Jun 2013 13:48:23 -0500 From: est86mlm@ameritech.net Subject: NEW Posted Video: 1968 Gift of Maggi +Juno Awards Check-out these recently posted videos! Tight and loose at the same time. From what I've heard it doesn't sound like they rehearsed all that much. When you're that good, I guess you don't really need to. Miles Davis had a rule on the road: no practicing. If he caught you practicing you were fired. >These will all be included in a future covers volume. Looking forward to it! What a wonderful treat that interview is in itself! Travis doesn't understand it but I could watch and listen to Joni talk for hours. I don't necessarily agree with everything she has to say but the woman has so much wisdom. A touch of blarney, maybe, but I think at this stage of her life the line from 'Don Juan's Reckless Daughter could at least be amended to 'I come from open prairie given a lot of wisdom...'. I think I had read on the list that the lyrics she said she was so proud of were from 'Furry Sings the Blues' but the specific lyrics were not mentioned. But I knew immediately which words she was going to say and was saying them along with her as she spoke them. I think they are some of the greatest song lyrics I personally know (not that I know every song lyric that has ever been written). Those words not only paint wonderful pictures they also are amazing combinations of sounds, especially that first line. And the imagery is fantastic. If I had written those lines, I would certainly be proud of having done so. I don't think it's unreasonable that they may be, at the very least, among the lyrics Joni is most proud of.
