She doesn't need three octaves, and she doesn't need an unlined face and taut body. Not anymore. Her musicianship and charisma make it impossible to look away."Something's lost and something's gained in living every day." The band was great as well. I think Brian Blade is a beautiful person, and he doesn't disappoint musically. No wonder Joni keeps him around. She has pretty good taste in associates. I'm on to the Last Waltz version now. Probably the height of her physical and vocal beauty, from the perspective of marketing a pop star. Anita is so right, John. Your voice need to be heard around here more often. Some of us (ahem, points to self) sometimes post too often, methinks. On the other hand, there hasn't been a lot going on until the last week or so, when things suddenly went crazy! I like your thoughts and am thinking about how Joni was movin' and groovin' to the music on stage. I could also see her through my camera lens in the audience and she just can't hold still. She was kind of dancing in her seat and mouthing words as others sang. I doubt she could stop thinking in music, even if she tried. I was in the local hmv (they're still in business here) because Sarah saw my photo with Liam Titcomb, so she checked him out on Youtube and wanted one of his albums (also, she has a crush on him, because he is very easy on the eyes too - if she finds out I told you all this, she will kill me, so hush up now!) Their online search said there was one in stock, which is often the case at hmv and then it turns out there are none in stock and I think sometimes the number one is their default. But anyhoo... we asked at the front desk, thinking the person there would have no idea who he was and would make a joke about his name, but the girl at the desk recognized his name and said she though the CD had been put in the back, to be returned to the distributor (no doubt because it hadn't sold), so she went back and got it for us. Score one for Liam! As well, the other worker at hmv recognized the name and asked if we were at the Joni tribute. It turns out he works as an usher at Massey Hall, so he was very familiar with the concert and the performers, although he couldn't remember what Esperanza Spalding covered. So we had a nice chat about how to get jobs at Massey Hall, how cool it is to be there for all these concerts (sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't, as I'm sure you'd guess) and just music in general. - ----- Original Message ----- > From: Anita G > To: johncalimee@frontier.com > Cc: joni@smoe.org > Sent: Friday, June 21, 2013 2:24:18 PM > Subject: Re: This rain. > > BIGGGG sigh....John, why don't you post more often? I've had sinus problems for a LONG time, due to allergies. I used to have obvious acid reflux from time to time, although that has all but disappeared unless I've had a night of dissipation ;-) However, I have to say I've had all of the symptoms you mention, including the vagaries of the voice (never know when or if it will work and there are times when I try to sing and sound like a boy going through puberty - think of the pimply kid on the Simpsons), the heart arrhythmia and not feeling rested in the morning (or any other time, and being unable to ever get a good night's sleep.) In fact, I spoke to my doc about the heart and he had me wear a holter monitor for a couple of weeks (I have yet to get a report back, which probably means they found nothing, or nothing of any great consequence, and it's really not a huge issue for me, but something i've noticed more of late that I attributed to too much caffeine and/or stress.) I usually take decongestants when my allergies are being really nasty, since none of the anti-allergy things seem to work for me, but decongestants aren't really good for you either, so I only use 'em when I have to. Getting older kind of sucks but I think our lifestyles (what we eat, drink, how we live) have a great deal to do with that. - ----- Original Message ----- > From: Laura Stanley > To: Marianne Rizzo ; jmdl > Cc: > Sent: Friday, June 21, 2013 10:02:47 AM > Subject: Joni's voice and sinuses > > Joni said a sinus problem has contributed to her voice problem. > > Acid reflux at night can aggravate the sinuses and cause chronic sinus problems > if not treated with a proton pump inhibitor and dietary/lifestyle changes. > > Acid reflux is hell on a singing voice.
