I sat alone in my seaside apartment in Australia completely mesmerised, intrigued and in awe of the genius that is Joni (in awe in a non-mentally-insane-fan-way... just for the record!). As someone who hasn't read many interviews or sifted through the finer details of her life - I was shocked to find out she had suffered so many health issues. I knew about the polio - but had no idea about all the other ailments she mentioned. Yes, the smoking probably doesn't help, but I also think these ailments have probably found their way into her body due to her sensitivity...she's a delicate soul. I think she alluded to that in the interview. I agree that it's sad to think she'll never sing in public again. But it would be much sadder to watch her struggle to reach unachievable notes on stage. I think it's beautiful that she doesn't feel the need to hang on to that side of herself. She's so much more than a singer. I just wish we could hear her words of wisdom more often. I look forward to reading her memoir!!!
