And that: 'In an exclusive print interview, the Star's Richard Ouzounian sits down with Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell in her Bel Air home in advance of her appearance and tribute at the Luminato Festival. Mitchell reveals the painful struggle to finally reconcile with her long-lost birth child, her battle with a crippling little-known disease and the knowledge that her life is inevitably drawing to a close, online Tuesday at thestar.com and in print on Wednesday." ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2013 04:40:32 -0400 From: David Marine Subject: Phoebe Snow's name, njc Hi Jim, Her given name was Phoebe Ann Laub. Yes, she saw images of the promotional character as a kid (the train ran through her childhood town of Teaneck, NJ), and later chose Phoebe Snow as her stage name. What a great talent she was... I can't find anything for this particular interview either on JM.com or doing a google search. Does anyone (with either a really good memory and the good fortune to have been listening to Musique Plus at the time, or else better search skills than mine) happen to know if this interview exists anywhere out there? Jim is an anglophone Quebecker who speaks French and whose music is mostly (maybe all?) in French. His radio show is meant to introduce English-speaking people to French/Quebecois music. Here are a few references to the interview: "The idea for the show [where Corcoran plays French music for Anglos] started in the late 1980s after Corcoran was asked to interview Joni Mitchell for the music video broadcaster Musique Plus. A Montreal producer caught the program and came up with the idea for the radio show..." http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/music/2013/05/10/jim_corcoran_bridges_fr enchenglish_divide_on_cbc_radio_show.html From La Presse July 22, 2008. Translated by me. Marc Cassivi of LaPresse asks JC if he likes being considered a "talent scout." Jim replies: I wish someone had done that for me when I was starting out. When I love something, I love it. I don't reserve my superlatives just for the "consecrated" artists. The funny thing is, this all began thanks to Joni Mitchell. I was asked to interview her for Musique Plus twenty years ago for the "Transit" show. I was nervous, but it all came about thanks to Joni Mitchell. Andre Lariviere, who worked for CBC, thought it would be a good idea and proposed this show. Thanks to Joni Mitchell, I'm still here 20 years later." http://www.lapresse.ca/arts/spectacles-et-theatre/200809/08/01-666267-jim-cor coran-vingt-ans-de-francophilie.php ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Jun 2013 18:52:57 +0100 From: Anita G Subject: Re: Toronto Star interview with Joni tomorrow and/or Wednesday Hi Cath - link not showing up here - but maybe it's only your side of the pond. As for the part where it says: Mitchell reveals ........ > the >>knowledge that her life is >>inevitably drawing to a close, online > Tuesday at thestar.com and in print on >>Wednesday." My heart feels very heavy, but hope it's more of a comment about the nature of existence rather than fact. Joni has been so 'around' the past months, I have wondered about her health. I hope you'll do double cheers - one being for me, Lots of love Anita On 10/06/2013, Catherine McKay wrote: > Here's the link. Neither of those make sense to me either, but the tense is wrong with "it stung", and it also doesn't make sense to me. Maybe it was just transcribed badly. I guess we'll have to have our ears pricked up to listen for that. >________________________________ > From: Catherine McKay >To: JONIMITCHELL DISCUSSION LIST >Sent: Monday, June 10, 2013 5:50:08 PM >Subject: Jian Ghomeshi sneak preview > > >http://www.cbc.ca/news/arts/story/2013/06/10/joni-mitchell-interview.html > >Also, click on the video link on that page. > >Joni's voice sounds a bit croaky. This interview is going to be fantastic, and I agree with Joni, Jian is CUTE! ;-) I also thought his description of it as "Frost/Nixon" was hysterical!! Joni Mitchell, and I'm judging just by my intense scrutiny of her ART over the last 43 years, is A FORCE OF NATURE!!! HAHA ... Countdown to Toronto!!!
