You can hear it all here as a podcast http://music.cbc.ca/#/Inside-the-Music I have said before on this list, that of all the singer-songwriters who have emerged in Canada since Joni's time, no one but Jane Siberry, in my view, has come close to be worthy of wearing the Joni mantle. By that I mean Jane, like Joni, is also an artist working in a pop medium. She is a multi-facetted and multi-talented performer, writing on piano and guitar, and who has followed a most unusual musical trajectory, not unlike Joni's. She is even more indie than Joni however, and has never came close to achieving a similar recognition. But if you listen to her catalogue, you will hear the voice of an artist who has followed her own muse throughout her career. KD Lang adores her. Anyway, back to Joni, the last song in Jane's setlist is ACOY. She explains that in her twenties while in Greece she played it repeatedly. She loves how the very last chord of the song is unlike any of the others. She says, JM, there's no one like her. I think we can all agree on that one. And in a quirky twist of fate, another little known Canadian singer-songwriter is also on her setlist, namely Don Freed, who she praises highly for his way with words. On Freed's Myspace page I noticed that he posts the portrait Joni painted of him (likely from a photo). It's fun to learn a little something of this man's music. So there'smy little Joni moment, C\O Jane Siberry.
