[Catherine McKay Give yourself some whacks with a wet noodle, Jimster...Chaka persuaded her to join her onstage for the encore which was "Help Me". An appropriate choice as Chaka fumbled the words and Joni tried to help her out. Still a fun performance - Annie Ross joined in as well. It would be impossible to do a film of this length and include everyone, but there were some serious omissions here. Another thing was they had 2 musicians that were not from New Orleans that were musical directors and they producers took alot of heat because of it. There is no lack of over the top talented musicians that could have done those roles. A couple of funny things that happened in the making of. Bonnie Raitt asked me to find her a guitar tech and I would have done it myself but decided to pull someone else in. His nickname was "Black Jesus" and she never forgot that. I ran into Bonnie at a festival and Canada and when she said hello to me she recalled Black Jesus and had a good laugh about that one. During sound check I got to sit in for Allen Toussaint on Piano in a dueling pianos segment that included Jon Cleary. Jon came over and asked me to show him what I was playing (which is just a blues progression in G that I played in that New Orleans Prof. Lonhair kinda rolling piano style). So much fun! Blessed and charmed life always comes to mind. Thanks for the memory. Allen Toussaint and the Neville Brothers were on stage. Some other familiar nanes were Brian Stoltz, Danny Kortchmar, and Bonnie Raitt. The stage manager was our own Michael Paz. Too cool! Nov 9th at Dizzy's in San Diego. Our For The Roses concert on April 6th was a resounding success (read the review at http://www.sandiegoreader.com/weblogs/jam-session/2013/apr/09/for-the-roses/) and it is with great pleasure that we tackle our most beloved album, Hejira. Furthermore, we just heard that Jamie Kime, Grammy winning charter member of Dweezil Zappa's Zappa Plays Zappa, has agreed to join me on guitars that night so we can capture that lush swirling double guitar texture that carries the sublime poetry of that record. Put it on your calendarslet's celebrate Joni's 70th in style. cheers all, Dave. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Apr 2013 16:56:01 -0700 (PDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: Luminato full festival lineup revealed (will Joni Mitchell appear?) That too, although I can almost hear Rufus Wainwright saying that, and Weisbrod is his husband. If Rufus said it, it would probably be meant as a compliment as well as a joke, and I really think he would also say it about a man. But then again, what do I know! I just think of how Joni will sometimes react to things the way Myrtle might have, and I think back to the Rolling Stone thing from ages ago and how much it pissed her off. >________________________________ > From: shadows and light >To: Catherine McKay >Cc: Jim L'Hommedieu ; JMDL >Sent: Wednesday, April 17, 2013 7:35:43 PM >Subject: Re: Luminato full festival lineup revealed (will Joni Mitchell appear?) > > >and i can't help but think that he wouldn't have put it like that if joni >was a man. > >On Wed, Apr 17, 2013 at 4:20 PM, Catherine McKay wrote: > >> ...plus he might have just alienated Joni and made her a no-show by saying >> that.
