(Pqim ap| 1 kept|) Dear Dave and list This concert was very meticulus and classy. David Lynch who I think is married to Paspala since 1998 [they have a son, Thomas] did an excellent job in the orchestration and band arrangements as well as in performance. Limakis was accurate on guitars and not once intimidated by the notorious JM guitar tunings. Kiourtsoglou on bass was leading at times. Immaculate percussion and piano plus velvet vocals. This team has proved in the past that they can do great live performances. I include the links of "Ain't no sunshine" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFLgIwrL1wc and "Temptation" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGibAtUht-I , both of them from music hall concerts. The sax player, David Lynch, who I believe is married to the vocalist, contacted me about sending him charts for this show, and I sent him all the charts he needed for it. Dave Date: Mon, 9 Dec 2013 18:54:51 +0200 From: DearMusic DJockey Subject: A greek JM tribute - birthday party Dear listers Just a quick belated note to let you know of an exceptional concert tribute to Joni Mitchell for her 70th birthday, that took place in a very warm and cozy concert loft [*Gazarte < http://gazarte.gr/index.php?option=com_eventlist&view=categoryevents&id=1&It emid=3&lang=el >*], in Athens, Greece. *Elli Paspala *, a NYC born and musically educated greek singer, a confessed JM fun since her teens, with her jazzy ensemble of excellent virtuosos [David Lynch on horns/flute, Giotis Kiourtsoglou on electric basses, Mihalis Kapilidis on percussion, Takis Farazis on piano and Giorgos Limakis on guitars], performed a 2.5 hours decently representative list of JM songs. They even included astonishing versions *of **Smoke* [*Try Another*] and *Jungle Line*. Elli's intimate, humble and respectful attitude towards JM, combined with her true vocal talent and brilliant orchestration was a blessing for the night, which rated above my expectations. Paspala at times was impressively accurate to the point that you could fool yourself that you had JM at her best in front of you. Only a few weaknesses in songs like Cleaner from De Moines, requiring more than a one man horn section, but nothing below good. Many goose-bumping renditions during the night of which I must mention *Cold Blue Steel** And Sweet Fire* with the quivering and haunting bass line and *Black Crow* where the whole band exploded. This real treat was rescheduled for two more consecutive Sunday nights [the last was unplanned] and received flattering reviews from the local press. It is a pity that such art cannot afford to be published. I hope that some YouTube clips will emerge soon. For some older clips with different lineups click *here [BC] * and *here [Twisted] *.
