Sounds wonderful. Wish I could have been there as always but alas some of us have to work for a living and can't lead the life of a gypsy slut wandering the globe in search of satisfaction... Awesome! Paz On Nov 12, 2013, at 9:26 PM, Bob Muller wrote: Jack, I got in only last night, had to work all day and then Christmas Carol rehearsal from 6:00 to 8:30. Cut a boy some slack! :-) Thanks to Kakki for getting the ball rolling. Like she said, it was my honor to introduce the Mutts - thanks Dave - and I said some of my own personal history about Hejira and added a great piece from another writer that I had read last week, commemorating Joni's birthday. I'll share that tomorrow. Of course, the setlist should be a mystery to no one: Coyote Amelia Furry Sings The Blues A Strange Boy Hejira Song For Sharon Black Crow Blue Motel Room Refuge Of The Roads (Dave's fave) Robin was in great voice, particularly given the fact that she is still recovering from a ruptured ear drum and had some hearing issues with that ear. I didn't hear a single misstep vocally and she seemed to be relaxed and having fun. Dave's playing was picture perfect as always, and he was more than happy to let the guitar spotlight go to Jamie Kime, who totally tore it up on solos on Black Crow, Hejira, and others. Really killer. Kevin on the fretless bass was note-perfect, and the addition of the harmonica on Furry and the backup singers on Sharon was the cherry on top. They had a Brian Blades-ish drummer on almost every track. I was in a state of bliss and saw lots of others swaying and swinging just like I was. Dizzy's is a jet ski rental joint by day and a performance hall by night. The sound was great, but there was no raised stage so lots of us couldn't see everything we would have liked. Dave did have the show photographed and recorded so we'll see what comes from all that. The show was packed and SOLD OUT. It was a very special night, well worth the effort to fly across the country to catch. And when you throw in all the JMDLer's there (Kakki, Sue Glu, Roch, Lesli, Steve & Michelle, and especially Lindsay "Betty Draper" Moon who was a great companion and chauffeured me around and rolled out the red carpet for me.) After the main show, the band enjoyed a standing ovation which led to the encore, a beautiful Dawntreader (Robin and Dave duo) and Night Ride Home (full band). We all definitely wanted more but were uber-satisfied with what we got. Thanks to Steve I had an ice-cold 6-er of Rolling Rock ready for the after-party which went way past any kind of reasonable hour in true JMDL fashion. Sunday found me heading to Fallbrook to hang out with Dave & Robin in their lovely cottage and unwind, relax and regroup. Dave being the audiophile he is has a 5.1 system set up in the living room so we listened to the special edition of Joni's orchestrated BSN and the difference on that system was amazing. Felt like I heard the album for the first time. Thanks to all of you for making the trip an unforgettable one...many times during the trip I was thinking to myself how incredible it is that this album I fell in love with back in 1976 could lead to such an unforgettable adventure. Thanks Joni for providing the spark for so much fun and joy, thanks to Dave, Robin and the Mutts for all your many many hours of work to put on such a sensational show. Did I somehow miss them? Inquiring minds want to know! Was the event recorded at all? Would have loved to have been there.
