She arrived promptly at 5:30 on schedule in a Chevy SUV. She called me on my phone and announced her arrival and I went out and carried her guitars in as she is traveling with a Tour Manager or anything. I then set up her guitars and pedals etc. and adjusted her monitors. I used some new monitors I am beta testing for a company I work with and they sound amazing. When she came down to sound check I apparently set them perfectly because she did not ask for a single adjustment and said that they sounded "wicked". She broke a string tuning up one of her bizarre tunings and I promptly changed it. She reminded me a bit of Stryngs altho I like Stryngs more I found her very compelling and her songwriting style is quite different. I was going to talk to her about the Joni CD I saw in her case but then thought better of it. I asked her if there was anything special she wanted us to play as walk in music and she said it was up to me. So I played Jack Neilson in his entirety and then a few Joni Tunes and then some Shovels and Rope for the hour before the show and on the break between her and Willie Mason. It was a lovely evening of music at the Civic. Love Paz P.S. Anne, Willie is from Cape Cod area and plays around that part of the country alot. He has been on the road with Mumford and Sons and Magnetic Zeros. On Nov 10, 2013, at 7:15 AM, Anne Sandstrom wrote: OMG!!! You got to set up her guitars??? She's quite popular here among a certain crowd. They play her quite a lot on WUMB (which you can listen to online at wumb.org). She's AMAZING! I've seen her a few times now. Not to be missed! lots of love, Anne ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Nov 2013 02:22:25 -0800 From: "Cassy" Subject: Re: Robbie Robertson's Legends, Icons, and Rebels I'm so sorry it's taken me this long to post regarding Robbie Robertson's "Legends, Icons and Rebels." I DVRbd Tavis Smiley a couple of weeks ago because Robbie was his guest that night. I havenbt had a chance to watch in itbs entirety yet but I did note that it is about his new book and why some of the people profiled in it were selected. Ibll be interested to see whether he speaks about Joni since Tavis is a huge fan of hers and she has appeared on his show in a brilliant interview. Thanks for posting about this, Richard. I will post something after Ibve viewed this episode but in the mean time, here is a link to the interview online: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/tavissmiley/interviews/robbie-robertson/ Enjoy! On his page there are also links to his interviews with some other iconic artists: Graham Nash, Al Jarreau, Tower of Powerbs Stephen Kupka and Emilio Castillo, and Herb Alpert: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/tavissmiley/ I really admire Tavisb interviewing style. I doubted Ms. Weller at first but now I love this book. Here is a sample from page 220 of the paperback edition. >Chuck may have perceived them as a duo, with her the junior partner, but she was bearing down on a rich vein of talent that had suddenly materialized, full-blown. It turns out that she was as natural a songwriter as any who ever walked the earth and only now was this gift manifesting itself.> Somebody say, "Amen!"
