["Susan E. McNamara" Subject: Re: Analogy I was thinking that since the hurt feelings are all out of the way, we could actually discuss the topic. I just watched The Universe of Keith Haring. It's a great piece of work in itself, the documentary. It's sincere and incredibly human. They managed to scrub any pretense out of the telling of his story. Very inspiring and sad to see his life end the way it did. On this subject, there's a certain category of artists or thinkers that are as near a total conduit of the muse as they could get. Joni, Jimi, Keith. They sacrificed themselves to their art. Allowed every cell of their being to remain open to receiving and expressing the emotion of their form. Joni rocked and cradled sadness and profound insight. Jimi channeled the electricity of sexuality. Keith splashed and splattered a universality of humanity all over the world, in a complete frenzy. These people aren't xeroxed. They're one of a kind and it's almost like it wasn't even their choosing. You don't just one day decide to become a channel from the all mighty! It's a ridiculous notion. These other artists, commercial, popular artists are great. They're having fun, keeping people entertained. But they're miles away from the purity of someone like 'a Joni Mitchell'. Bless their desire to be like her but I do see it as a fluffy fleece blanket of ignorance over their heads. - - Shari > On Nov 5, 2013, at 10:23 PM, Corey Blake wrote: > > Not really crazy about seeing this topic reopened but I agree the analogy doesn't quite carry over. > > Maybe try the "Blurred Lines" guy or some other equivalent male pop star saying he wants to become a Dylan. > > (Sorry for continuing this.) > > >> On Nov 5, 2013, at 9:42 PM, Dave Blackburn wrote: >> >> He didnt really have to. During the production of the card I changed my song from Refuge of the Roads, to Just Like This Train, to Moon At the Window, and Magdalene Laundries, then finally put Refuge of the Roads back on for good. I know that was a hard question. I didn't count but I think Hejira was the most popular song. With me, it's more the tough decision about which song to choose, if I could only choose one. Ask me another time and I'd come up with a different one. >________________________________ > From: Susan E. There are too many Joni fan pages on Facebook. Not normally something I'd complain about, but I don't want to join them all. It gets confusing. >________________________________ > From: Susan E. Sue, Thanks for your efforts, I'm sure that Joni will be touched by the remembrances and thoughts from her cyber-community. You always go above and beyond the call of duty. Labor of love, I know, but much labor nonetheless. And how cool knowing that something you put together will make it to Joni herself.
