I'm OK buying a CD and then buying a few extra MP3 tracks. It's not ideal but better than no CD at all. I just saw this and did not feel that James butchered the song. It was really a nice version except I guess time constraints made it necessary for him to leave out about 3/4 of the words. But all in all it was not bad at all. Is this the first time a singer has tackled one of Joni's songs on one of these singing competitions? I don't recall it on either 'The Voice' or 'American Idol'. These shows always seem to require a moment in the performance where the melody tripsidasically jumps all over the place and it always seems forced to me. But the crowd jumps for joy when they do it so I can see how they'd feel obligated. That's my only critique. He seemed to really feel the sadness of that song. But as Joni says, she always tried to add a touch of brightness along with the hard truth, the hopelessness, etc. The brightness of the dulcimer helped there. This one feels plain ol sad. Not that that's bad but I still prefer her version (OBVIOUSLY) Thanks for sharing!
