I saw them a month or so ago and they really put the spirit in music. Susan Tedeschi is a great talent in her own right, but am really enjoying her new venture! Nikki np: Tracey Chapman : In This Point In My Life Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction....The chain reaction of evil--hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars--must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr., Strength To Love, 1963. ________________________________ From: JMDL Digest To: joni-digest@smoe.org Sent: Saturday, November 2, 2013 6:09 PM Subject: JMDL Digest V2013 #1593 JMDL Digest Saturday, November 2 2013 Volume 2013 : Number 1593 ========== TOPICS and authors in this Digest: - -------- Re: new perspective [Bob Muller ] - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 2 Nov 2013 15:06:25 -0700 (PDT) From: Bob Muller Subject: Re: new perspective Hi Marc, thanks for your post and a welcome if you're new. Are you part of the McCarron brothers with TWO Joni covers under your belt? If so, you guys rock. If not, you still rock. I LOVE and live for new music. Lived through all the classic stuff and it was great but what's around the corner? That's what I want to know. That attitude led me to listen to this crazy record called Hejira back in 1976 and I'm still looking for something to top it. Haven't heard it yet but keeping my ears open. Bob NP: Ambrosia, "Mama Frog" ________________________________ From: Marc McCarron To: joni@smoe.org Sent: Saturday, November 2, 2013 3:16 PM Subject: new perspective I've been a Joni fan for 35years just listened to a recent interview with her I think she was spot on regarding tributes not exactly what people on this site want to hear. Two female artists come to mind as relevant in 2013, M.I.A. will be coming out with a new album in December and Lissie just put out her new album a few days ago. (Her first was outstanding this one is good). Cat Empire's "Steal the Light" is by far the best album of 2013, a male group from Australia. There is great new music being created by musicians that are talented beyond belief and true to themselves. I think the best tribute we could give to Joni would be sharing among ourselves artists that are not imitators or tribute attention seekers, but artists who deserve buzz because they are creating music worth listening to. Getting caught up in Pop music bashing is demeaning to our intellects. If you love Joni's music (not just enamored with Blue and pre Don Juan's Reckless Daughter part of the catalogue) you have an intellect and ear that should live in the present as well as the past 500 years of multiple genres. Listen to KCRW on the web and stay open to today. Listening to new music is like panning for gold hard work for a few flecks worth keeping. but when you listen to an artist like M.I.A for the first time you understand why you put in the effort. Question because I don't know the answer. Has Joni ever given an opinion about Patti Smith? seems like she would acknowledge her existance at some point. Thanks, Marc Fall in love with Cool Jazz if you haven't already Jazz was never meant to be Smooth. - ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2013 #1593 ****************************** - ------- To post messages to the list, sendtojoni@smoe.org.
