That's my big question. And, if you're living in that kind of fear, why would you want to continue to live that way? Either fix the problem, or move. There isn't really another answer, is there? Some of the people who argue for their "need" to own a semi-automatic weapon with a high capacity ammo clip say they need such weapons in order to resist the government's tyranny, as if even all 315 million Americans, each with a semi-automatic weapon -- or even with several apiece -- are going to resist the government's tanks, helicopters, planes, bombs ... How idiotic is that scenario? If the government wants to oppress its people, it will do so. Citizens with guns are not going to stop such a thing. This isn't 1776. If you're so fearful that the government is going to oppress you, MOVE. I am extremely bothered by the notion, since the Sandy Hook shootings in particular, that there should now be armed guards in all schools. None of the people who are spouting support for that seem to understand the constant, underlying fear that will cause in children. Or, if it doesn't cause fear in kids, then it will make them even more immune to considering that weapons all around them, every day, is abnormal. It IS abnormal. It's sick. However, too many people, particularly in the US, seem to think there is no other way to attend to that illness than to ramp up the presence of guns. That is sicker still. As for Canada, although I do feel safer in Canada than in the US, there are still too many guns there. Hunting for sport is another symptom of a very serious societal illness. Who, other than seriously disturbed people, kills living, breathing beings for fun?
