He was sitting in on her Gene Shay radio interview where she played Sisotowbell Lane and (even though it was radio) you could tell they were both gaga b& and she also said when talking about David Rea that he would sit in on bhootsb with Ian and Sylvia and Gordon Lightfoot in Toronto. It would be interesting to hear if they were friends. I would have to say out loud that Gordon Lightfoot has more to do with me picking up the guitar than Joni. I don't recall ever hearing him singing anything but his own material. It's just that sometimes my brain will have me "hear" things in someone else's voice. Doesn't happen that often but, to me, the song sounds a bit like early Gordo. I'm sure at the time, they encountered each other at the clubs they played at. I agree with you about genderless singing. I don't mind it when a man sings a "woman's" song or vice versa. I like to challenge my brain sometimes. Goodness knows, my brain needs that! In fact, more often I love it when someone sings a song that's "meant" for the opposite sex. ________________________________ From: Susan E. If she wrote it for Gordon Lightfoot to sing, I doubt he would have picked it up since he had no trouble writing his own songs to sing. I really love Winter Lady and sang it at Pazfest ... I think it's fine for a woman to sing it to a woman if they so choose ... :-) another example of Joni's genderless songwriting style.
