I love my country too but there are a LOT of reasons to be disillusioned with the USA. Joni explored this duality for a long time, (which is reflected in her houses too: which this week? BC or LA?) To me, this is similar to the themes that people loved more on Hejira and THOSL. Why is DJRD an outcast?
