Pearl Weisberg I listened to it with Kakki earlier. Beautiful job, Sue, and one of your best vocals ever. Wow! Jody Johnson Thank you Sue for this refreshing heartfelt song! Beautifully played and sung. These early Joni songs suit you so well. Catherine McKay Wow! That's lovely! Pat Boland Anyone recall my lone voice posting about this song way back in 99? No one had heard of it and I was so freaked out because all these coffeehouse recordings were coming out with sets of great songs but this one, which, as I said, Joni always played, just never showed up and now you can see why I was going on about it. Anyway, I'm working on a new batch of Joni Mitchell guitar arrangements and the first one is (finally) done! This one is "Court and Spark," which I promised about three months ago. Well, life got in the way and although I had the arrangement completed (thanks, Dave Blackburn and Sue Tierney McNamara for the advice!), I just hadn't gotten it filmed and "ready to go." But here it is for all of you guys to enjoy. Please let me know what you think: http://youtu.be/GT4kcTgmGMM. Soon I'll have tabs posted on the JM.com page. By the way, I've also been busy completing an album of my guitar arrangements and thought you may be interested to hear it. It's called "Rich Exchanges" (Catch the Joni-ism?) and it's a collection of my own solo guitar arrangements of Beatles, Bob Dylan, and Joni tunes as well as two original compositions. It's available for FREE to stream and download at: http://samstone.bandcamp.com . I hope you guys enjoy it! I have heard or read several times where Joni was compared to Buffy Sainte Marie, even from Joni herself referring to those other people or articles with the indication being that of course she did not. Me, I never thought Joni sounded like Buffy in any way and so I was surprised when someone posted this clip of her singing BSN in 1966 in some coffeehouse and Joni, in fact, to me sounded quite a lot like Buffy, almost as if she were doing a subtle Buffy impression! Now I respect you guys a lot as you are certainly the most knowledgeable group of folks on earth when it comes to the divine Ms Mitchell and I would greatly appreciate your feedback/opinion as to whether I am completely off my rocker here or what. Please listen closely while keeping in mind that I've never, ever before considered any comparison of the two. Thank you. http://youtu.be/we9kIdu8zcI ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Oct 2013 10:29:39 -0600 (MDT) From: TheStaff@JoniMitchell.com Subject: New Library item: Saskatoon group moving ahead to honour Joni Mitchell Title: Saskatoon group moving ahead to honour Joni Mitchell Publication: CJME News Talk 980 Date: 2013.10.21 http://jonimitchell.com/library/view.cfm?id=2702 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Oct 2013 16:21:03 -0500 From: Michael Paz Subject: PazFest III Well it has taken me 2 weeks to recoop from the last Pazfest. I am so grateful to everyone for coming to help me with my fundraiser and to celebrate our friendship and the music of Joni Mitchell. I dare say it is the last time I will do this. I have said it before but it is just too much for my old body. The fact that we had a storm looming in the gulf really took its toll on the attendance for the show at the Wolf and it was just sad cause it was such an amazing show. The New Orleans musicians and the JMDL musicians that performed were just amazing. I had such a great time that night and even though we were not as many as past fests it was all still worth it for the music and the friendship alone. Hopefully those that did participate picked up some new fans. I have been speaking to Meg Griffin about doing a 1 hour broadcast on Sirrius/XM The Loft in the near future. I have begun listening to the show and evaluating the performances to begin the difficult task of picking the songs we will use in the broadcast. Hopefully this will allow me to bring more awareness of the Hospital to the world and raise more money to keep the doors open I want to thank first of the Mutts of the Planet Dave and Robin for making the trek from California to do this. It means the world to me. Special thanks to Barnaby Finch who was not able to do the train both ways and flew in at his own expense to do this. The show at the Little Gem was fantastic and the recording sounds so good. I hope to pick a song from there to broadcast on the radio show. So many thanks to my team: Gentlemen Jim for all the driving cooking and general support and planning. Special thanks to Sue who is always in good shape to drive or figure out a tuning or a new Joni tune. Maggie McNally for doing everything. Cassy and Jody for being the backbone of support and help with the Fest and taking care of the food for the artists. Kevin and Kris for being great hosts and letting us use their place for the gathering was so great. To everyone else who came and participated it was so wonderful for you all to be to share this with me and it means so much to me to have you all as friends. I wish I could have hired someone to be me and then I could have just hung out with you all and played music and gotten time to visit more with all of you. I look forward to the next crazy person that decides to host a JoniFest so I can just come and be one of the attendees. I hope to release the all of the performances so everyone can enjoy them. I need to figure out the best way to mix them and get them out there. I have asked Dave Blackburn to help with this and we will see how our schedules and such allow for us to accomplish this as it is well over 6 hours of music that was recorded successfully over the weekend. Its kinda funny to me that in the old days we all would rush home to write these huge reports of the experience of hanging out together for a long weekend and nowadays it takes so much more medical attention just to get us back to our regular routines. After the weekend I fell sick and was immobilized for 2 days and then the doctors gave me antibiotics and a steroid shot to get me back on my feet cause I had to jump right back in the fire at my new gig at the Civic Theater and it has been rough. Couple with the withdrawal of having so many people I love around and the spontaneous jams and intimate moments together makes me weepy just to think about it. Thanks to all of you that sent checks or left check with me. Believe it or not it was almost as much money as we raised the last time even with the low attendance. Special thanks to the newbies that came out to a PazFest: Lu and Bill Lancton who really stole the show at the Wolf, Ashara Stansfield who has been threatening to come for years and my old JoniFest bandmate Chuck and his lovely wife Barb and of course Steve and Michelle those wacky folk musicians (who were the only ones to get recorded during the after parties in the Courtyard). So good to have you all in my stompin' grounds. To all the PazFest vets: Kakki, Les, Jimmy and Ed (true VETS), Pearl and Steve, Brian and Cindy, Bob Muller, Christina, Victor and Catgirl. You are all welcome here anytime and I wish you would just come and visit more often and lets just party instead of doing all this damn work. ok next......
