I do think that a lot of the earlier material simply isn't really up to par, but as Bob pointed out there are gems such as "Just Like Me" which certainly should be released. I'd be more interested in material like that which we have on THOSL demos. Joni's discussed her desire to release some of the alternative Mingus tracks. And I know there are a number of unreleased alternative Hejira takes in a vault somewhere. My take on it is that she's just too busy. She's building a new house in B.C., working on the new ballet, working on her memoirs, and enjoying her life. She's also described the process of reviewing her work for the Hits & Misses project as being less than entirely pleasant. And she's re-mined her catalogue many times after that, with Dreamland, TBOS, Travelogue, SOAPG, and the two ballets. I just get the sense that she doesn't care to yet again turn her focus to the past. Maybe if she had someone working with her whom she really trusted she could curate a quality boxed set. Perhaps Les and Simon could spend a few weeks with her up in Canada when the B.C. house is completed, and knock something out...
