It's unreleased for a reason. She made that decision, I'm pretty sure, and no one is more curious than I of any and all of her body of work. In fact, I'd LOVE to hear what she threw out - it's fascinating and revealing. With that said, if someone went into my vault of unreleased material, which there is quite a lot, and released it without my permission or after I died, I'd be quite upset. It's like when you put an outfit on in the morning and it doesn't look so good, so you take it off and put on something that looks better. You didn't want people to see you in that first outfit and it's a personal decision. Artists perform material to see if it "works" and in Joni's case, some of this was caught on tape. She is so famous she couldn't hide away and try out her songs without this happening. Mind you, I'm not lecturing here, rather, I respect her decisions. I just listened to "Mr. Blue" and can see why it didn't show up on her records. I say this with all the respect in the world. She is my idol, for sure. When we go into the studio to record, there's always two or three songs that go into the "rotating file" - - ones that don't make it to the record. This could be for performance reasons, or they don't work with the other songs or simply, you realize, they are just not at the same level as the other tunes. Anyway. With all that said, I would be fascinated to hear all of her songs, but only if she presented it to us with her blessing. Has anyone approached her about this? Maybe I missed this in all the posts this morning.
