We also have one bed left at the main compound where all the jams and parties and community meals will happen. On Monday I will be doing my press release to get the word out about our Joni Tribute concert to benefit The Ruth Paz Hospital for Burns and Pediatric Surgery in Honduras. Below is some info for you about the history of PazFest. I hope to see more people get off the fence and come down to New Orleans and have a great weekend of music, food, friendship, and partying!!! I hosted a fundraiser for the Ruth Paz Foundation to build a Burn Hospital in Honduras in May of 2000. We had the concert at the Howlin Wolf in New Orleans and called it Pazfest-A New Orleans Tribute to Joni Mitchell. Artists included: David Lahm, Jason Marsalis Band, Susan Cowsill, Brian Stoltz, The Brian Thomas Band, Kim Carson w/ Bud Tower, Kim Prevost and Bill Solley, Jack Neilson, John Parker, Lil Queenie, John Rankin, Beth Patterson, Leslie Smith with Michael Pellera, Robert Mache, Candace Cox, Danzig and Wooley, Sam Price, Kevin Aucoin, Betsy McGovern and the Denise Marie Band. Over 400 people participated in a beautiful night of music at the Wolf and that show was released on CD in 2001. On August 15 of 2010 we opened doors to the Ruth Paz Hospital for Burns and Pediatric Surgery, in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. I hosted Pazfest II on Labor Day weekend Sept 2-6, 2010. The main event was once again a tribute to Joni Mitchell concert that was held at the Howlin' Wolf. We were blessed again to have a stellar line up: Jimmy Robinson, Alexis Marceaux, Ingrid Lucia, Irvin Mayfield, Randy Jackson of Zebra, DJ G-Cue, Alex McMurray, Jonathan Freliech, Joe Cabral, Doug Harrison, Sharon Martin, Kristen Diable, Alexandra Scott, Ray Ganecheau, Christine Ohlman of Saturday Night Live Band, Roman Street, Phil Melancon, Pat Weathers, Leslie Smith with George Porter, Jr., Sharon Martin with Rickie Monie, Charie Gabriel and Joe Lastie of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and many more. We are doing it again on October 5, 2013 at the Howlin Wolf at 8pm. August 15 was the 3 year anniversary of the opening of the Hospital and we have been struggling to keep the doors open and the hospital services intact. A major benefactor has yet to help us with operational funds so we are forced to keep up the battle with friends like you. So far Amtrak, Rio Mar Restaurant, Astor Crown Plaza, Little Gem Saloon, The Calling Card, and Whole Foods are sponsors. And of course none of this would be possible without the gracious support of so many artists and friends like: Mutts of the Planet, Roland Guerin Band, Paul Sanchez, Gal Holiday, Jimmy Robinson, Charm Taylor with The Honorable South, Indianapolis Jazz Guitarist Bill Lancton with Lu Ann Lancton and special guest Johnny Vidacovich, Susan Cowsill, Leslie Smith, Jeff and Vida, Otra, Sam Price and Christina Friis-Nielson, Chris Atkins, Kevin Danzig, Faith Crawford, Roddie Romero, Sam Broussard and Caleb Elliott, New York Singer Songwriter Bryan Thomas, and many more.
