Frankly, I couldn't really play it comfortably because of the position of the hands (more like a keyboard, only worse - it hurt my wrists). Lately, I've been playing Irish bouzouki. It sounds VERY much like a dulcimer to me, especially when tuned in particular ways. Plus, the hand positions are like a guitar, which I'm comfortable with. It has 8 strings - 4 pairs (or courses). The Trinity model is quite nice. And you can get some great sounds from it even if you only learn the basic chords.
