Ok cool. I am going to be staying at the Astor Crown for the weekend. I am finalizing some other plans for a gourmet meal out on the town as well as a special evening concert at a new venue where I designed the sound systems and it is very intimate and comfortable as well as the private parties for JMDL friends and family. Also still booking artists for the Saturday night Howlin' Wolf concert as well as working on some surprises that I am very excited about. It is not too late to sign on for the party and Muller has been to them all! Christina is in Denmark right now but she is working on some cool stuff with her songwriting and band partner Chris Atkins who is an amazing player and has become a great friend of mine and I really enjoy playing with him. More news soon. Many of the items have been my Mum's and there are so many beautiful cards that she kept over the years, some written in my childhood hand. It is very touching. I also have my report cards, Cath, but I don't think I was as quiet as you. I have been on a big path of reminiscing and met up with the band I was in during 1980-83. We had a deal with EMI. It was really great to meet them and we laughed and laughed. Afterwards, I was so moved that I started to write my first new song in years and I quite liked it! I have offered it as it is to the band and we're going to get together for fun to play it. Whether this is a mistake, we will find out and our drummer has had two heart attacks and a stroke, so we have booked the oxygen tank to be close by. As for Joni's 50 boxes of things, I wonder what memories will be evoked for her and, like you, Bob, I feel warm towards Myrtle that she kept so much. It's sad to read about the guy driving off with your Mum's prized possessions in the back. I so understand how that feels. Anita On 20 Aug 2013, at 20:47, "Susan E. If there are at least two or three boxes of Joni's old sketch pads, I'm sure they are worth a look at!! I know I would be interested in sitting on her attic floor looking through those for a couple of hours!! :-) > > Susan Tierney McNamara > email: sem8@cornell.edu > > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-joni@smoe.org [mailto:owner-joni@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Catherine McKay > Sent: Tuesday, August 20, 2013 3:35 PM > To: Bob.Muller@Fluor.com; joni > Subject: Re: New Library item: Mitchell's 'stuff' could end up on Storage Wars > > Remember those chianti bottles and the multi-coloured candles that dripped wax down the side? that was once my idea of fine decorating! > > After we kids were > grown, my mother gave us each a bag of stuff that she had saved for years - report cards, birth announcements and baby pictures, results of music exams, hand-drawn cards for special occasions, and so on. (This reminds me of Tom Waits' "A soldier's things.") I still have this stuff and am so grateful to my mum for doing that. Most of my report cards say "Catherine should participate in class more." Yup. Things never change! And handwriting was always my worst mark. > > I've also saved a lot of stuff from my kids and will do the same for them when/if either of them ever moves out (ha! these days? most kids can't afford it). Sometimes we take out the things they wrote and the drawings they made from kindergarten and grade one and have a good laugh. > > I can't believe > there are fifty boxes of Joni's stuff though. That's a shitload o' shit for some old guy to hang onto for so many years. I hope Joni is paying for the shipping costs because I betcha he's some old guy living on a pension. >> ________________________________ >> From: "Bob.Muller@Fluor.com" > >> To: joni >> Sent: Tuesday, August 20, > 2013 1:11:17 PM >> Subject: Re: New Library item: Mitchell's 'stuff' could end > up on Storage Wars >> >> >> Not sure if this guy is trying to be funny - seems > like he is but I didn't >> laugh - but I think he's clouded by some bitterness > over Joni's >> statements. >> >> But I can relate - I moved out of my parents > house, and the boxes of my >> stuff that were left behind were not MY > belongings but rather boxes of >> greeting cards, letters, pictures, school > projects, things that my Mom >> saved as keepsakes.
